Rancho Poquito just got some good news. Rene’, pictured above (trying to run over me since I was blocking the goal!), had her United States Polo Association Handicap raised to 1 Goal. I won’t go into a lot of detail on the handicap system, other than handicaps are based on ratings of one's peers, more information can be found here. This is a respectable rating for any polo player. Currently of the over 3,000 USPA members, less than 33% of the members carry a rating of 1 goal or more. I couldn’t break down the numbers by gender, but I know that only a handful of women ever surpase a 0 goal rating. We at Rancho Poquito are very proud of Rene’ for achieving this goal, this is a very nice honor.
Also, a shout out to our buddy Andy Towell, who has a cool website showing lots of polo photos.
Congratulations.

Here at Rancho Poquito, our dreams have finally come true, after only 9 years. We found an elk antler out in the far pasture. We have elk come through the place form time-to-time, but have never found antlers in either our pastures or our woods. The antler was likely shed this last winter, right after the rut. We are now debating on what to do with it. In the short term, it’ll be “show and tell” fodder. Longer term, we’ll either mount on our porch, or turn into a cool set of steak knives.

This summer (July), the family went back to Adrian, Texas for Nanny and Papa's 50th Anniversary. The above photo was taken of sissy at MidPoint Cafe. Sissy was a waitress at said location several years ago, long before the Cafe was known as "MidPoint". A few years later, when it was "Peggy's Cafe", my basketball team made it a point to eat a cheeseburger and fries before every home game -- those were the days before Lipitor...
The Owner of the MidPoint Cafe has done a great job of marketing my little home town. Based on her "marketing plan" Adrian is now known as the midpoint of Route 66, 1,139 miles to both Chicago and Los Angeles. Personally, I like this claim to fame a bit better than a long ago PRCA Bronc rider who happened to date Tanya Tucker for a brief time...

Welcome to our "Blog". For those of you who don't know what a Blog is, it's basically an online diary, with spell-check. Unfortunately, it doesn't check for correct usage.
I'm not entirely new to this "blog thing", my office has had one for quite some time. The good news about the professional blog is that staff engineers and scientist can cobble together a post on a technical topic, and people who are way more web savvy and better writers polish it up before it's posted to my company's website. In the case of "Updates From Rancho Poquito", I'm on my own, of course, I don't expect a tremendous amount of traffic.
So, that's it for now, don't worry about me going off to "MySpace" or "Facebook". I'm getting less and less tech savvy through the years. Our VCR still blinks 12:00, but then again, we have a VCR, so I probably didn't need to throw in the blinking time thing!!
Cheers,
